Ruth Usoro begins the season with Top2 world mark as more Nigerian athletes record impressive performances

Ruth Usoro led a string of impressive performances by Nigerian athletes at the Texas Tech Corky Classic.

Nigerian athletes have started the 2024 season on impressive notes, with triple jumper Ruth Usoro leading the park on Saturday.

Usoro leaped a respectable distance of 13.89m to win the triple jump event at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, and the mark stands as the second-best in the world this year behind Neja Filipic's 13.90m.

In the women's 200m event, Success Umukoro of Texas Tech ran a lifetime best of 23.49s to finish sixth overall, while Ella Onojuvwevwo of Louisiana State University also clocked a personal best of 23.91s and helped her school to win the 4x400m event.

In the men's event, Godson Brume began his season with a modest 21.41s performance for fourth in his heat and eleventh overall.

The men's 400m at a different meet saw Dubem Amene with the overall fastest time at 46.17s, ahead of Dubem Nwachukwu's 46.30s.
