Roncer Kipkorir ready for next assignment after dominant exploits at African Championships

Roncer Kipkorir has exuded confidence ahead of his next assignment after bagging a bronze medal at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Newly-crowned Africa 10,000m bronze medallist Roncer Kipkorir is ready for his next assignment after his podium place at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Kipkorir won Kenya her first medal, thanks to his relentless pursuit of greatness that saw him push beyond the limits to claim the bronze medal at the continental showpiece.

The Shanghai Half Marathon champion crossed the finish line third in 28:59.94 behind the Ethiopian duo of Nibrat Melak and Gemechu Dida who finished first and second in respective times of 28:52.26 and 28:52.78.

The national champion disclosed that it was the first time he was representing the country and he was pleased to have won a medal. His next assignment will be a half marathon race in Copenhagen where he expects to perform well after competing on the track.

“I competed in the 10,000m and I am happy with my results. The race was very competitive but I gave it my all and managed to earn a bronze medal. This was also my first time representing the country. I want to compete in a half marathon race in Copenhagen and I expect to run well,” the 29-year-old said.

Meanwhile, African Games silver medallist Edwin Too was over the moon to have bagged another medal in Decathlon in Douala. He had hopes of winning a gold medal and fell short but he expressed satisfaction with the bronze.

Too disclosed that his strong areas on the track are usually the 100m and 400m while in the field, he is usually strong in the high jump and long jump. He was pleased to have earned personal bests in the 400m and shot put too.

“I managed to win a bronze medal and I thank God to have managed such a feat. In the African Games, I managed to win a silver medal and I was expecting to upgrade my silver to a gold medal but the competition was tough here.

“I missed my national record by 11 points and I would say what worked for me was being impressive in the long jump and discuss where I achieved a personal best.

“I also managed to attain a personal best time in the 400m. The 100m and 400m boost me on the track while the long jump and high jump work for me in the field,” he added.
