Noah Lyles will have his work cut out to impress in the 200m next season as Letsile Tebogo will also be out to make a name for himself.

Even though he claimed that no one cared about the 200m, Noah Lyles has from time to time expressed his desire to shatter Usain Bolt’s world record time of 19.19 seconds.

He will not have an easy time doing so because another 200m maestro, Letsile Tebogo has also expressed the desire to go for the world record, especially after his successful 2024 season that saw him clock explosive times.

Ahead of 2025, American sprint legend Justin Gatlin has advised Noah Lyles to be cautious and put in more work in the 200m if he has to hack both sprint races. Despite having made a mark in the 100m, Gatlin believes having the 200m world record will raise his profile.

“I would love for him to kind of roll his sleeves up and go to work on that 200, and why I say this? Because he made a comment before where he wants to go after, threaten the world record in the 200. Now maybe now, 100m Noah doesn’t feel like there’s no reason to do so,” Justin Gatlin said on his Ready Set Go podcast.

“The effort that he would give to put out there it would potentially kill two birds with one stone, and what I mean by that is he would be making history breaking that record, but also we know that that’s what Tebogo is going to be focused on,” Gatlin added.

The 2004 Olympic champion further stated that Noah Lyles making the mark in the 200m would make him a threat to many. However, he cautioned the reigning Olympic 100m champion not to give up any of the distances to avoid being ‘pushed out.’

“We know the fact that he’s trying to make his mark in that 200 realm. That’s going to be his sweet spot. It’s going to look like, oh, Noah dropped down to the 100, which left the 200 vacant. Does that mean vacant, or does that mean you got pushed out?” Gatlin added.
