Reigning world under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot has disclosed two of his opponents who might deny him a chance to win a historic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Reynold Cheruiyot has disclosed the main challengers standing between him and his quest for Olympic glory as he heads to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The world under-20 champion badly wants to win a gold medal but he is aware of the threat posed by defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and world champion Josh Kerr.

He revealed that, however, he will be out to try his luck for a podium finish despite the strong opposition that awaits the Kenyan contingent in Paris. The 19-year-old added that the return of Timothy Cheruiyot from injury is a huge boost for Team Kenya as they head to the French capital.

“Winning that gold medal will be tricky because we have Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr so we have to go there and work extra hard. We will certainly win a medal because Timothy Cheruiyot is back and we are going to work together and ensure we bring that medal,” Cheruiyot said.

He added that the main thing he shall be working on will be speedwork ahead of the historic clash. Cheruiyot explained that qualifying for the Olympics was a dream come true for him as he sought to also represent his family well in Paris.

“At the moment, I have to work on my speedwork and everything will be okay. We have to work as a team to ensure we achieve our goals,” he said.

“Qualifying for the Olympics is a dream come true for me because I will be debuting and I promise to work hard so that I can finish in the podium bracket.”

Cheruiyot started his 1500m campaign by winning the race at the Kip Keino Classic before finishing third at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha. He then finished second at the USATF Los Angeles before claiming top honours at the Kenyan Olympic trials.
