Mary Moraa's track rival has gone down memory lane to a time when she almost quit the track due to the numerous setbacks she was facing.

Mary Moraa’s track rival Athing Mu has opened up on a time when she almost quit the track due to the obstacles she faced in the sport.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Neiman Marcus, Mu noted that there is a lot she has been able to learn after she turned pro, virtues that have enabled her to gain confidence from competing with her rivals.

The former World 800m champion admitted that she had to learn her position in the sport to avoid disappointments and know her purpose.

“There have been many lessons throughout my career. During my middle school years, there was a point where I didn’t want to run the track.

“In high school, I gained confidence. From all the years of competing with and around professionals, I learned my position in this sport. Those moments allowed me to take a step back and think about my purpose,” she said.

The American also explained that she draws her confidence from within and she always wants to be true to herself. She added that her focus is always on ensuring that she does the best for people around her, those who usually support and encourage her.

“It’s insane to think about how much I’ve accomplished. Especially in the past three years, time has flashed before my eyes.

“I’ve been persistent with my goals and my wishes. It’s pretty surreal, but I’m super proud of myself. I’m glad it worked out this way,” she added.

The Olympic champion also noted that she did strictly club track throughout her youth and in high school. During her college days at Texas A&M University, Mu joined an official training group.

“Before college, I was always an athlete who trained by herself, went to meets by herself, and went to nationals by herself. When I realised I’m exceptionally good at what I do, I understood my position in track and field,” she said.
