The paralympic champion has called for equal recognition and funding for para-athletes, highlighting disparities in prize money, and bonuses, compared to their Olympic counterparts.
Multiple Paralympic champion Sarah Storey has complained about the lack of equality when it comes to compensating athletes.
For instance, many gold medallists from the Paris Olympic Games were honoured in great ways but question is, will their Paralympic counterparts enjoy the same bonuses?
According to an analysis done by CNN Sport, many Paralympic colleagues are paid less ‘to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.’

'That was not a good career path' - Hunter Woodhall reveals Tara Davis-Woodhall's peculiar childhood aspiration far from track & field
The track and field power couple have disclosed a peculiar career aspiration that Tara Davis-Woodhall had before settling for track and field.
Paralympic medallists are not given the recognition they deserve and even from the Paris showpiece, only about 23 countries and Taiwan awarded their Paralympic champions decent bonuses.
“Looking across the world, it is very disappointing that nations place such a varying importance on the funding of their athletes and that the profile and opportunity for para-athletes is often overlooked,” Sarah Storey said as per CNN Sport.
She revealed that there should be a funding model that caters for both sports, insisting that ever athlete is equal and they all deserve recognition.
Storey further lamented that there is lack of support even in training equipment for the athletes while the others have a structure that works well for them.
“It would be great to see both a regular funding model for preparation costs AND a bonus structure with prize money in all sports,” she revealed.
“The biggest challenge for potential para-athletes is the adaptations that are needed to equipment to enable someone to start in a sport.

World Athletics also introduced prize money for Olympic gold medallists in track and field and they will be receiving $50,000 in prize money. In this case, Paralympic gold medalists have also been snubbed.
“While World Para Athletics is not in a position to offer prize money in Para athletics events at the moment, we encourage investment in our sport and look forward to the day when we can engage in discussions about how we can reward our amazing athletes,” the World Para Athletics said in a statement addressing CNN.
Nine-time British Paralympic gold medalist Hannah Cockroft also noted that it was frustrating watching how para-athletes struggle. She was speaking in a past interview with Sky Sports.

“That would really pay for my wedding quite well. Ultimately, I do this because I love it. We want parity and that’s what we push for every time.”
