The 30-year-old is preparing to return to the New York City Marathon and her win at the World Road Running Championships is enough motivation for her.

Peres Jepchirchir obliterated a strong field at the World Athletics Road Running Championships to clinch her third title over the Half Marathon.

With her feat, she becomes the fourth woman to win the World Half Marathon three times and joins Kenya’s Tegla Loroupe, Britain’s Paula Radcliffe, and the Netherlands’ Lornah Kiplagat.

She is gearing up for the New York City Marathon and the win is just motivation enough for her ahead of her return to the streets of the Big Apple.

The Olympic Marathon gold medallist also celebrated her birthday a few days ago and the win was a perfect way to continue with the celebrations as she turned 30.

In an interview with World Athletics, Jepchirchir said: “I wanted to win three times and make history, and thank God I have made it. It was my birthday this week and I told my husband I would work extra hard to get the win.”

Her fearsome finishing speed saw her take gold in 1:07:25 and she was closely followed home by compatriot Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi in 1:07:26, with Catherine Reline Amanang’ole completing a 1-2-3 for Kenya in 1:07:34.

“I am so happy for team Kenya. I knew we would sweep this as a team because I trust my colleagues so much. When I saw the tape, I started celebrating.

"Next month I’m going to run the New York City Marathon. I hope I’ll be competing at the Olympic Games next year…that’s my prayer; I pray to God for good health to get that chance. I will try my best,” she said.

The Kenyan battled a series of injuries last year but she has since announced her return. She opened her season with an impressive third-place finish at the London Marathon.

She then proceeded to take the Great North Run title before reigning supreme at the World Road Running Championships.
