The Jamaican sprint king has disclosed that his injuries made people lose faith in him but he kept going and eventually earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games.
Reigning Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson has opened up about the confidence he has gained from the 2023 and 2024 seasons and how he is building up on that ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The Jamaican spring king told Citius Mag that he had been battling a series of injuries before then and people thought he would never bounce back but he managed to do it, something that has made him believe that anything is possible.
He explained that the injuries taught him that there can be a positive outcome out of struggles and he learnt how to turn a blind eye to what people have to say about his career.

Kishane Thompson sets ultimate career target beyond winning medals
Amidst the many setbacks Thompson has been through over his career, he has now revealed what he wants to achieve for the rest of his career, and it is not medalling.
“This year and the previous year…I know I shouldn’t look back but yeah, I’ve been coming from the lowest of the lows and there are times when people would say it doesn’t look possible but I bounced back based on my coach and team and I also believe in myself. The accumulation of all those things sets out a really positive outlook about things,” Thompson said.
The 23-year-old raced sparingly in 2023 due to injury setbacks, starting out at the Jamaican Championships where he won the heats but did not proceed to the final.
Thompson then raced at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he finished fifth before claiming the win at the Meeting International Schifflange. He then finished second at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen before rounding up his season at the Prefontaine Classic where he finished fourth.
