Olympic champion Noah Lyles is loved and hated in equal measure. His opinions have received mixed reactions from the people.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles is a man viewed differently across the athletics circles and the sporting world at large.

While some say Lyles is mouthy, braggadocios, and arrogant, others say the American is honest and engaging. Lyles has made comments that some say sound like boasts or hubris, such as "That's what they all say, until they get beat!".

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo has previously rubbed Noah the wrong way, brandishing the 27-year old as loud and arrogant while Zharnel Hughes has described Lyles as having a loose mouth.

However, it is in 2023 when Lyles, the Paris Olympic 200m bronze medallist made a statement that left tongues wagging. Lyles, who holds the third-fastest 200m time with a sizzling 19.31 second sprint, was bullish about his chances heading into the Olympics.

The six-time world champion bragged that he was going to break Usain Bolt's 200m record of 19.19 sec set at the 2009 World Championships according to TalkSport.

While this sounded normally, Lyles tore into the character of human beings saying: "The second-most popular, favourite hobby of humans - after watching somebody achieve greatness - is watching them fail. People love to watch people fail. They just do. I don't know why."

He continued: "It's just if somebody says they want to do something great, someone's right there next to say they can't do it. I can give zero cares about what other people think."
