The Jamaican sprint queen disclosed that she was not angry after missing the 200m world record in 2023 despite her facial expressions.
When Shericka Jackson crossed the finish line of the women’s 200m final at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, many alleged that she was unhappy after missing the world record from her facial expressions.
In the race, Shericka claimed the gold medal, clocking 21.41 seconds to cross the finish line, narrowly missing out on the late Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record time of 21.34 seconds. That time makes her the second-fastest woman in the world and the fastest woman alive in the 200m.
Shericka has come out to refute those claims and instead noted that she was unwell at the time she was running the 200m. The reigning world 200m champion further noted that she knew the world record was in reach but it was not her main focus at the time.

She had a conversation with her coach, Stephen Francis who advised her to stay off social media, which she did and revealed that nothing was bothering her at the moment.
“I think it was possible, I think it was just because at the time, right after I finished the first round of the 200m, coach was like, ‘I hope you are not on the internet paying attention to what they are saying.’ I was like, ‘No, I logged off the internet.’ Whatever people said never really mattered,” Shericka said in a past interview with Bwoyatingz By Kareem on You Tube.
“I was super confident going into the 200m and I knew the world record was in reach. I never went into the race knowing that I was going for the record but it was at the back of my mind and I knew that with the right execution, I would have made it there.

Running the 200m, Shericka Jackson was just fresh from winning a silver medal in the 100m, finishing second behind Sha’Carri Richardson. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the defending champion, claimed a silver medal in the race.
