Paris Olympics: Noah Lyles begins 200m campaign on a high as Bednarek, Knighton, Tebogo & Uganda's Orogot also sail through

Noah Lyles begins 200m campaign on a high with dominant heat win, with several African sprinters, including Uganda's Tarsis Orogot also clinching semi-final spots.

New 100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles began his quest to win a quadruple of gold medals at the ongoing games in Paris with a sensational run in heat six of the 200 meters on Monday evening.

Lyles, who is hotly tipped to win the event, dominated the track from start to finish  and crossed the line first ahead of Andre De Grasse of Canada, who came in second, with Towa Uzawa of Japan coming third.

Kenny Bednarek began his quest to make amends for his 100m disappointment with a commanding run in heat four with a 19.96 display, a proper sub-20 performance.

Alexander Ogando and Joshua Hartmann won the remaining slots respectively,

In heat three, Letsile Tebogo started his Olympic 200m gold campaign with a phenomenal run, as he became the third African in a row to win the first three heats of the ongoing games.

Tebogo crossed the finish line first in 20.1 seconds, with Makanakaishe Charamba of Zimbabwe finishing second and  Filippo Tortu of Italy completing the last slot.

Joseph Fanbulleh of Liberia won the first heat on 20.20, with Italy’s Eseosa Fostine Desalu and Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa sealing the final two slots. 

Uganda’s Tarsis Orogot, Wanya McCoy and Renan Gallina would get through the second heat.

In heat five, Erriyon Knighton, who had grabbed the headlines for the wrong reasons last month amidst his doping ordeal, got through the line first on 19.99, ahead of  Zimbabwe’s Tapiwanashe Makarawu and  South Africa’s Shaun Maswanganyi.
