Paris Olympics: Brian Komen, Timothy & Reynold Cheruiyot through to men's 1500m semifinals

The trio of Timothy Cheruiyot, Reynold Cheruiyot, and Brian Komen has sailed through to the men's 1500m semifinal at the Paris Olympics.

The trio of Brian Komen, Timothy Cheruiyot and Reynold Cheruiyot have sailed through to the semifinal of the men’s 1500m at the Paris Olympic Games.

Brian Komen, competing in heat one, was looking very comfortable to pull off a surprise as he has done in previous races. Komen was up against Commonwealth Games champion Oliver Hoare who was also in the mix to impress.

Reigning world champion Josh Kerr was also in the mix, hoping to sail through to the semifinal with the main focus on winning the Olympic title. Komen held onto his rivals, running in third place and fighting his way to secure a slot in the semifinal.

As they crossed the finish line, Komen surged to second place in 3:36.31 as Kerr won the race in a season best time of 3:35.83. Girje Nordas completed the podium, clocking a stunning 3:36.41. Anass Essayi, Yared Nuguse and Robert Farken also made the cut to the semifinal in the first heat.

Heat 2 had Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot hoping to make it to the final and hopefully improve on his silver to gold.

Cheruiyot has struggled with injuries in previous seasons but bounced back this season and is ready for the challenge. Passing the 400m mark, Cheruiyot was running from the second place.

Passing the 800m mark, Cheruiyot moved to second place, passing the mark in a stunning 1:57. The 2019 world champion maintained his second place passing the 1200m mark. However, a few meters to the finish line, Ermias Girma took the top honours with Cole Hocker finishing second in the race.

Pietro Arese completed the podium with Niels Laros coming in fourth. Cheruiyot finished fifth to seal his Olympic ticket with Nader completing the list of automatic qualifiers.

Reynold Cheruiyot was in action in heat 3, going up against defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen. However, Cheruiyot seemed unfazed as he gave his all in the race, finishing fourth in 3:37.12 behind the Norwegian. Stefan Nillessen and Kessler Hobbs finished first and second as Ingebrigtsen completed the podium.
