Paris Olympics 2024: Julien Alfred shakes off competition from Sha'Carri Richardson to win women's 100m title

Julien Alfred was off to a great start in the blocks and powered through to the finish line, taking the win in a national record time of 10.72.

The women’s 100m final at the Paris Olympics was one for the books following the strong team assembled for the race.

Before the gun went off, everyone looked comfortable and focused on changing their lives in seconds. Sha’Carri Richardson did her signature sign, pointing to the sky before the gun went off.

Julien Alfred had a great start off the blocks and sailed through to the finish line, clocking a national record time of 10.72 to cross the finish line. Richardson came in second 10.87 as Melissa Jefferson completed the podium.

Meanwhile, Julien Alfred has been impressive, winning the women’s first round and semifinal and going into the final, she was sure of getting a medal.

Sha’Carri Richardson has been impressive this season, going unbeaten in the women’s 100m until the women’s 100m semis at the Paris Olympics.

The American opened her 100m season with a win at the Prefontaine Classic before racing at the U.S. Olympic trials where she was flawless in the preliminaries and semis before striking a world leading time of 10.71.

Richardson, the reigning world champion edged Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry to claim the win at the trials. At the Paris Olympics, Richardson had an easy win in the women’s first round before losing to Julien Alfred in the women’s semifinal.

Tia Clayton, the only Jamaican to make the final finished seventh in 11.04. This was after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce withdrew from the semifinal without confirming why. Shashalee Forbes was eliminated in the semifinal of the race.

Great Britain's Daryll Neita finished an impressive fourth as Twanisha Terry came in fifth in the hotly contested final. They clocked 10.96 and 10.97 respectively.
