World champion Faith Kipeygon will seek to win one of the two Olympics gold medals she is vying for but must be wary of an upset from Beatrice Chebet, Sifan Hassan, Gudaf Tsegay and Co.

Faith Kipyegon will seek to assert her authority as the greatest middle distance runner of all time when she takes to the track in the women’s 5,000m at the Paris Olympics on Monday.

Kipyegon is doubling at the Paris Games and can win one of the two gold medals she is vying for with a good performance on Monday night.

The world champion will lead compatriots Beatrice Chebet and Margaret Chelimo in the hunt for gold in the French capital in what will be just her third race over the distance this year.

Kipyegon easily cruised to the final on Friday, having qualified for the Olympics with ease and can go one better by claiming a gold medal in the race which will bring together the crème dela crème.

World record holder Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia is the woman who lowered Kipyegon’s world record when she clocked 14:00.21 at the Prefontaine Classic last year while Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan is also seeking to spoil the Kenyan superstar’s party.

Kipyegon and Hassan have had a great rivalry over the years, with the Kenyan coming up trumps, and the Ethiopian-born runner would want to gain revenge in Paris.

Add it to Chebet’s quality and experience and the race becomes one for the ages.

With the quality field, the 5,000m final is likely to be a very fast one which could yield another world record, if not an Olympics record, and the focus is on Kipyegon who has taken to the event like a seasoned runner over the distance.
