The Kenyan youngster oozed class as he crossed the finish line in a personal best time, flocking his opponents Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi was no fluke as he struck a personal best time to win the men’s 800m gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

The youngster crossed the finish line in a stunning 1:41.19 ahead of Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati who finished second and third respectively. Arop clocked an area record of 1:41.20, finishing closely behind Wanyonyi as Sedjati came in distant third, clocking 1:41.50.

Wanyonyi has enjoyed a great season this year, starting with the road mile world record with a time of 3:54.56 at the Adizero Road to Records. On the track, Wanyonyi struck a win at the Kip Keino Classic.

He competed sparingly, awaiting the Kenyan Olympic trials. On day one of the trials, Wanyonyi tripped and fell, finishing outside the podium bracket but filed an appeal to be included in the men’s 800m final.

The Kenyan youngster clocked an astonishing 1:41.70 to win the men’s 800m final at the Olympic trials. That time was the fastest since David Rudisha’s retirement and the third quickest in history.

Marco Arop, the reigning world champion, was also looking to impress on the global stage, following his impressive form this season. He has yet to run fast times like his rivals, opening his season at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen.

With his second-place finish on the Olympic stage, Arop has already enriched his cabinet as he shifts focus to the Diamond League Meeting final.
