Jackson, who pulled out of participating in the 100m, has now made the surprising decision to pull out of her specialist 200m race as well.
Just a day after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce pulled out of taking part in the 100m semi-finals due to injury, Shericka Jackson has also made the decision to withdraw from the 200m, having done the same in the 100m earlier this week.
This is a huge blow for team Jamaica, who were already depleted heading into the games, with Elaine Thompson-Herah pulling out after struggling to overcome her numerous injury woes this season.
Jackson, who was scheduled to participate in the third heat on Sunday morning, will hopefully be trying to spare her energy for the 4 by 100 m relay which will take place later this week.

Fraser-Pryce was handed a DNS in the second semi-final of the women's 100m race at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic games.
Jackson last raced on 9 July at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, but pulled up on the home stretch of the 200m, prompting her to not double at Paris 2024.
“That decision was based on coach and I,” Jackson said this week. “It’s a combination of a lot of stuff. And I made that decision not to contest the 100m… and focus only on the 200, and I think we're pretty happy with that. I just [want] to compete at my best, as everybody is here to win.
“The focus is on the individual event first and then we speak about the relay after…”

Meanwhile, Britain’s Daryll Neita took full advantage of the situation as she ended up winning that heat.
Neita controlled the race from the start to the finish before crossing the finish line first. Tasa Jiya of Holland came second, while France’s Hélène Parisot finished third, completing the heat’s line up for the semi-finals.
