The success of the Paris 2024 Olympics was driven by focusing on Gen Z, embracing innovation, and delivering the Games at the right time amid global tensions.

The brains behind the success of the Paris Olympic Games have disclosed that getting a hold of Gen Z is a huge part of why the event was a success.

The Paris Olympic Games delivered record numbers and despite a few mishaps here and there, they managed to host a successful event, thanks to the local organising committee.

Christophe Dubi, the man who planned and delivered the Olympics in style revealed that finding the perfect audience is what contributed to them regaining the Olympic power and making the world great again.

Dubi told Guardian Sport in an exclusive interview that they have since learnt that focusing on the future is what matters the most and that’s why focusing on a certain generation worked for them.

“We have regained what we had somewhat lost. So when you reconquer Gen Z, those that are looking at the world facing the future rather than looking at the past, it really matters,” Dubi said.

Dubi further noted that the Olympic Games came at the right time and it also contributed to its success. The previous Olympic Games were held post-Covid and planning was not a walk in the park.

They were initially scheduled for 2020 in Tokyo, Japan but had to be pushed forward as the Covid pandemic had just struck the world. The stadiums were empty then and making profits was a very tough task.

Dubi explained that the Paris Olympic Games changed a lot in the world and it was like a breath of fresh air to ease the tensions.

“There were a lot of geopolitical tensions, with people upset about just about everything every day. Because Paris really was the right Games, at the right time and place.”

The Paris Olympics chief executive, Étienne Thobois added: “You always hope…but you don’t really believe it until you see it. It was intense, exciting and, well, fabulous.”

“There are two things that I think made it a success. First, if you look at the bid book and all its innovation, and what we delivered, we were quite close.

“We had a clear vision, an ambition, and we carried it off pretty well. And second, we delivered a Games that embraced and mixed Olympic and French values.”
