On Tuesday, Jamaica coach Stephen Francis had provided a positive update on her fitness ahead of her Paris Olympics participation.

World 200-meter champion and Olympic favorite Shericka Jackson will not contest the sprint double at the Paris Olympics after dropping the 100m.

Jackson has withdrawn from the 100m event due to an injury suffered during a recent race at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix earlier this month.

The incident led to speculation and concern over her ability to represent Jamaica in both the 100m and 200m events at the Olympics.

Jackson's manager Ludlow Watts has confirmed the latest development stating that Jamaica has already named her replacement.

"She has given up her place in the 100 metres ... all the information that we can provide is that she is not going to participate in the 100 metres," Watts, Jamaica's track and field team manager, told Reuters.

In the absence of Jackson from the initial line-ups Sashalee Forbes has been reported to be her replacement.

"Shashalee Forbes is her replacement in the women's 100 metres. I don't know the reasons, I'm just dealing with what is the outcome," Watts added.

Forbes, who placed fourth in the 100m dash at the Jamaica National Championships in June, clocking in at 11.04 seconds, is prepared to step into the void left by Jackson.

Shericka Jackson holds the title of the fastest woman alive in 200m.

She is also the reigning national sprint double champion and has posted the fastest times by a Jamaican woman this year in both the 100m and 200m races, with times of 10.84 and 22.29 seconds, respectively.

Her performance and resilience make her a top contender for medals in both events at the Olympics.
