Brandon Arrington Jr. breaks Noah Lyles' 200m record, sparks recruiting buzz and hints at a dual-sport college future.

Noah Lyles may be one of the most decorated sprinters in the world but his high school record at the Arcadia Invitational now belongs to someone else.

Brandon Arrington Jr., a five-star cornerback and elite sprinter from Mount Miguel High School in California, shattered Lyles' long-standing 200-meter mark with a blazing 20.35-second finish on Saturday night.

The record-breaking performance took the track and recruiting world by storm, as the multi-sport phenom outpaced Lyles’ 2016 time of 20.48 seconds.

"It means a lot. My bad Noah Lyles. I didn't mean to do it you," Arrington said with a smile, following his headline-making run, as shared by DyeStat on Instagram.

At just 17, Arrington is proving to be one of the most electric athletes in the country.

The Class of 2026 standout is ranked No. 13 nationally by On3 and holds the top spot at his position.

Recruiting buzz has been intense around Arrington, with powerhouse programs like Alabama, USC, Penn State, and Oregon vying for his commitment.

Though he is expected to take official visits before making a decision, On3’s prediction model currently gives Texas A&M an 83.5% chance to land him. However, the door is still wide open.

Speaking about USC, the in-state contender with the No. 1 recruiting class for 2026, Arrington told On3’s Chad Simmons.

“What excites me is that they showed me love and showed the priority they have for me and they been showing love since day one. After my official visits, I am probably going to cut my list down to four schools, then commit to one.

Like this list, my commitment will come down to relationships, development and being in a place where I want to be.”

Despite strong interest from USC, Oregon is emerging as a serious contender to pull off a recruiting coup

The Ducks have been ramping up their push for Arrington reportedly pitching the opportunity to excel in both sports at a high level.
