The championships are scheduled for later this month in Lusaka, Zambia.

East Africa 100m junior champion Isaac Omurwa and World Under-20 400m silver medallist Damaris Nduleve will lead 50 athletes for the Africa under 18/20 championships scheduled for later this month in Lusaka, Zambia.

Omurwa obliterated a strong field in the 100m to place first and he will be Kenya’s sole representative over the distance in the Under-20 category. He will be looking to raise the country’s flag high just like he did at the East Africa junior championships.

Omurwa who is the younger brother of Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala added that being alone does not place him under the pump as he believes he has the capability.

“Of course, I will want to win but I will be grateful with what God gives me. Right now, I want to go hard into training and improve on my time. That’s my main aim,” he said.

Nduleve will also be Kenya’s sole representative as she lines up for the 400m and 200m races in the under-20 category.

Diana Cherotich and Maureen Chepkoech will represent the country over the 5000m. Irene Jepkemboi will also be the lone representative in Javelin. In 800m, Everlyne Chepkoech and Judy Kemunto have been selected.

Sheila Chebet and Peninah Mutisya have been selected for the 1500m as Pamela Kosgei, the younger sister to the women’s World Marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei, selected for the 3000m Steeple chase.

In the men’s under-20 category, Stephen Ndangili will be up against a tough field in the 10,000m walk race. The duo of Solomon Mutisya and Emmanuel Wafula have been selected for the 3000m SC.

Over the 5000m distance, Vincent Kipruto, Shadrack Rono and Michael Rotich have been shortlisted. In the 10,000m, Amos Lagat, Dennis Mutuku and Samuel Kibathi have been selected. Joseph Lenkoima will also be Kenya’s sole representative in the 200m as the duo of Dominic Kiptoo and Brian Kiptum selected for the 800m.
