Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has promised to deliver a medal at the World Championships scheduled for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
Omanyala, 27, will be vying to be the first African to win a medal in the 100m at the global event and he is confident of achieving his goal.

The experienced sprints coach feels Africa’s fastest man still needs to improve on two key areas if he has to claim a medal at the World Championships.
Speaking at an awards ceremony in State House on Tuesday morning, Omanyala noted that with the support provided, he will be keen to raise the country’s flag high.
He was awarded Ksh2 million by the government for his exploits in the Diamond League Meetings where he finished third in Rabat, Morocco before finishing second in Florence, Italy, and Paris, France Meetings.

“I promise that in two months' time, we are getting a (100m) medal at the World Championships. It has never happened before in Africa and I am sure this year it’s coming home. From my preparations, I can say I’m ready for the challenge,” Omanyala said.
During last year’s edition of the World Championships in Oregon, USA Omanyala traveled last-minute due to a visa hitch and could not make it to the final but has promised a show-stopper this year.

The Commonwealth Games champion also requested the Ministry of Sports to look into the tartan track at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani ahead of next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
“The warm-up track is completely worn out and if it could be renovated as we prepare for the Olympics, that would be good for us sprinters,” he said.
