Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has fired warning shots ahead of the Kip Keino Classic scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.
Omanyala has promised that if the weather conditions are conducive, he will definitely break the African record of 9.77 that he set during the 2021 edition of the event.

He revealed that fans coming out in large numbers to support him will be one of the major factors that will determine if the record will be shuttered.
“The record has stayed for too long and I guess it’s time. If the weather conditions are conducive and we have a good start, then the African record will be good.
I hope the stadium will be full since I work well under pressure...I know the fans will not disappoint. The records are there to be broken,” Omanyala bullishly said during the pre-race press conference.
The 27-year-old also promised to deliver a good show to his fans. He confidently said that they should brace up for a thriller.

Omanyala and Simbine last faced off against each other at the Commonwealth Games where Omanyala took top honours.
“I always promise and deliver and I want them to come out in large numbers. I’m very very confident ahead of tomorrow. I want them to come and experience something they have never seen and maybe they might never see again,” he said.

His recent defeat was during the Atlanta City Games where he was competing in the 150m race for the first time and he managed a third-place finish. Despite the loss, he set a new African record of 14.98 over the distance.
