Olympic champion Noah Lyles in shock career revelation as American makes heel turn about federation criticism

Noah Lyles is known for his exploits on the track but surprisingly, sprints was not his first choice while growing up.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles has left the world in shock after revealing that athletics was not his preferred sport during his formative years.

The six-time world champion, in blatant admission,  said basketball was his first love even though he was involved in a war of words with the NBA in the build up to the Paris Olympic Games.

Lyles who managed Olympic 200m bronze, questioned the NBA's world-acclaimed status. The Guardian reported that Lyles said the league was presumptuous to crown its winners world champions. “World champion of what? The United States?” Lyles is quoted saying.

Things got a little awkward when Lyles had to share a boat with many of Team USA’s NBA players at the Paris opening ceremony.

To avoid criticism and further public scrutiny, the reigning 100m world champion said: “I have no animosity toward the NBA. Basketball was my first love. I’m not wishing for the downfall of anybody.

The reason I brought that up was to show that the NBA does a good job with its marketing strategy. They’re not actual world champions, but they’ve ingrained the idea so deeply that you can’t tell anybody anything else.”

Lyles holds focus as sprint’s main character, creating spectacle with his bold fashions and brash talk. The spotlight has made him sought after and he enjoys it even more now that he's both the Olympic and world champion.
