Yared Nuguse reveals event he will be taking part in in Michael Johnson's Grand Slam League.

American middle-distance star Yared Nuguse has shared his excitement for the upcoming Grand Slam League, the latest innovative venture in track and field created by legendary sprinter Michael Johnson.

With the inaugural edition set for 2025, the league promises to showcase the sport’s top talent, including Nuguse, his compatriot Cole Hocker, and 1,500m specialist Josh Kerr, who recently signed on.

Johnson’s Grand Slam League aims to elevate track and field by bringing together the sport’s best athletes and creating a buzz around their performances. The league’s recruitment of stars like Nuguse and Hocker—both fresh off medal wins at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games—underscores its ambition to capitalize on the success of current middle-distance powerhouses.

Hocker stunned the world with his performance in the Olympic 1,500m final, surging past favorites Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Kerr with a blistering late kick to win gold in 3:27.65, the second-fastest time ever by an American.

Nuguse also delivered an impressive Olympic performance, securing a bronze in the 1,500m by outkicking Ingebrigtsen in the final 200 meters.

Reflecting on his future participation in the Grand Slam League, Nuguse expressed his enthusiasm, particularly about testing himself in new challenges.

“I am really looking forward to seeing how I handle the 800. People say that I would be great there but I am not convinced yet. I think we need to run a couple more and then we will see but I think I love the grand slam set up,” Nuguse told Citius Mag.

“To have all those guys there and just creating the hype around track, I think it is going to be fun for athletes and fun,” he added, highlighting how the league is poised to generate excitement for both competitors and fans alike.

While eager for the Grand Slam League, Nuguse has also taken a moment to reflect on his recent performance at the Zurich Diamond League.

He ran an impressive 3:29.21 in the 1,500m, narrowly beating Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who had recently set a world record in the 3,000m. Ingebrigtsen finished second in 3:29.52.

“I love it, especially after the Olympics was over. The stress is kind of off and now it is just racing to have fun and just getting to compete, which is the best part of what we do,” Nuguse said.

As anticipation builds for Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam League, fans can expect more thrilling moments from athletes like Yared Nuguse, who are not only ready to push their limits but also to contribute to the future of track and field on this innovative stage.
