Jamaican sprint star Oblique Seville has disclosed what worked for him as he silenced triple world champion Noah Lyles at the Racers Grand Prix.

Jamaican sprinting icon Oblique Seville has disclosed what enabled him to beat triple world champion Noah Lyles at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica.

Seville clocked an impressive personal best time and world lead of 9.82 to cross the finish line first ahead of Lyles, who settled for second in a season best time of 9.85 with Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala completing the podium in 10.02.

The Jamaican has credited his coach and the training they have been doing in the past one month after his win at the hotly contested event. Seville expressed his elation following his win, noting that the hard work is finally paying off.

“Well, my coach and I were working on execution throughout the week and the past month, and coming out here and getting a good execution shows the work that I have put in paid off.

“It’s a tremendous feeling because last year I had injuries and I didn’t compete in the race but this year I’m happy because I’ve competed and gotten a personal best time and a win in front of my Jamaican fans,” he said after the race.

The world bronze medallist noted that he expects to race in the Diamond League Meetings and showing up in races in Europe more but his coach shall make the important decisions.

He also mentioned that it’s not his fault to skip Diamond League events since he has been battling injuries, that have forced him to withdraw from many major events.

The 23-year-old also expressed joy to having competed against Lyles, explaining that the last time they clashed was at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where Lyles won the 100m and he finished an impressive fourth.

“Well, of course, but my coach and I shall decide where I’ll run. It’s not my fault, it’s just because whenever it’s time for me to compete in the circuit, I always have issues like injury problems and stuff, which I don’t really get to compete in the circuit.

“I’m not afraid of flying…it’s just because of injury and I don’t know why when it’s time for me to compete at the Diamond League or something else, something always comes up.

“I’m happy to have competed against Lyles because the last time I raced against him was the World Championships and coming out here and racing against him in the country is good,” he said.
