Noah Lyles gold celebration is among three moments from the 2024 Paris Olympics shortlisted for the World Athletics photo of the year.
A striking image of Olympic champion Noah Lyles celebrating his gold medal victory at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been shortlisted for the World Athletics Photo of the Year award.
The photo, captured by Hungarian photojournalist Anna Szilagyi, is one of three finalists selected from a global pool of submissions.
Szilagyi, who has been a staff photographer for the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in Munich since 2023, is joined by two other contenders in the prestigious competition.

Kishane Thompson recognised in Jamaica despite Olympic gold loss
Sprint star Kishane Thompson received his special honour from the Jamaican Olympic Association for his Paris exploits.
The second nominee is Michael Steele of Great Britain, whose photograph captures the dramatic sprint finish between Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia and Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands during the women’s marathon in Paris.
The third finalist is Mattia Ozbot, a freelance photographer from Italy, whose image depicts Mondo Duplantis in action during the pole vault competition at the Stade de France.
The three photographs, hailed for their ability to convey the spirit and emotion of athletics, were chosen from entries submitted by photographers representing 46 countries across six continental areas.

‘I’ll take it’ - Noah Lyles accepts Rai Benjamin’s challenge for a 300m showdown
Olympics 100m champion Noah Lyles is ready to race his 400m hurdles counterpart Rai Benjamin in an attempt for the 300m indoor world record at the New Balance Grand Prix.
The shortlisted images will be showcased in a digital exhibition on the World Athletics website, set to go live later this month.
The winning photograph will be announced on World Athletics’ platforms as part of the World Athletics Awards 2024.
