Lyles has provided an update over his COVID-19 status four days after being diagnosed with the disease moments after bagging bronze in the 200m final.

American sprint star Noah Lyles has shared a positive update regarding his COVID-19 status after a challenging week that saw him compete in the 200-meter final at the Paris 2024 Olympics despite being diagnosed with the virus just days earlier.

Lyles' Olympic journey took a dramatic turn when he had to be helped off the track in a wheelchair by medics after finishing third in the 200-meter race.

He was outpaced by Botswana's Letsile Tebogo, who took gold, and fellow American Kenny Bednarek, who claimed silver. Despite his physical ordeal and the looming shadow of COVID-19, Lyles made the courageous decision to compete in the final.

After the race, Lyles took to X (formerly Twitter) to update his fans on his health. “Thank God I’m COVID free,” he announced, sharing a picture of a negative test result.

His relief was palpable, given the uncertainty and concern surrounding his condition earlier in the week.

This isn't the first time Lyles has faced adversity on the Olympic stage. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics, delayed by a year due to the pandemic and held without spectators, had a significant impact on Lyles' mental health.

The sprinting sensation has been open about the depression he experienced during that period, which he says hampered his performance.

Reflecting on his journey since Tokyo, Lyles has often cited his experience at those Games as a driving force in his career. At a previous press conference, Lyles brought along the bronze medal he won in Tokyo, dramatically slamming it on the table as he declared it to be his motivation for the past three years.
