Paris Olympic pole vault champion Nina Kennedy has expressed her feelings regarding her sharing the 2023 World Championship gold with USA's Katie Moon.
In a scene reminiscent of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic high jump final, where Qatar's Mutaz Barshim and Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi famously decided to share their gold medal, the two pole vaulters embraced warmly as they agreed against a jump-off in favour of both going home with a world title.

Pole vault star Mondo Duplantis has reflected on his performance after failing to break the world record at the Brussels Diamond League finals.
Kennedy, who doubles up as the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion and a two-time Diamond League winner, said people felt there should be only one winner. "That was a bit of a story about how we shared that gold medal right. A lot of people had an opinion of: 'There should be only one winner. You're a coward. You should have kept jumping'. That was a bit of the vibe I got," she told the Mental As Anyone podcast.
"It's pretty crazy. Especially going into the Olympics, I was equal world champion with Katie Moon," she added.
Kennedy said she is ready to tackle the challenges that each season brings despite reaching her life goal. At the moment, she is in a reflection phase, describing 2024 as crazy.

Mahuchikh, 23, broke the the high jump world record in July before winning gold at the Paris Olympics and she gave the intrigues behind her success this year.
"I feel like right now, I'm in a bit of a reflection phase. I'm doing some journaling and recapping on what was a crazy year. I've just reached my life goal... it's kind of weird to say. What I'm really enjoying about my career at the moment is that every year and every season brings its own challenges," she added.
"This year was different to last year, which was different to five years ago. It’s about learning and growing… I’m sure this coming year will be filled with, how do you deal with that pressure of being the Olympic champ - and that's something I'm going to have to learn and deal with, which is kind of exciting," Kennedy finalised.
