This is memorable for Jebet since it is her first win since she started competing in marathon races.

Newly-crowned Nairobi City Marathon champion Naom Jebet has disclosed that she had not prepared well for the marathon and attested that the win came as a surprise to her.

Jebet was in a class of her own as she outsmarted counterparts Sharon Arusho and Judith Jerubet to take victory in the women’s 42km race. The 30-year-old clocked 2:24:33 ahead of Arusho and Jerubet who timed 2:25:30 and 2:27:01 respectively.

In a post-race interview, Jebet said, “I am very happy to have won this race…I hadn’t prepared and now I believe that anything is possible.”

Jebet revealed that the win was pure luck for her since she was not even sure of a podium finish. She was part of the chasing pack for the better part of the race and noted that she mustered the courage to merge with the leading pack and try her chances.

Little did she know that the move would yield great results and she would be crowned the Nairobi City Marathon.

“I saw them (leading pack) and they were opening a huge gap from us (chasing pack). I decided to give it a try and part with the chasing pack…I didn’t know if my move would yield great results,” she said, adding that it was her first time competing in the Nairobi City Marathon.

With the win, Jebet will now walk away with Ksh 3.5 million and she is yet to know what to do with such a huge chunk of money. “I will have to receive the money first before I start planning on how to spend it,” she said.

She added that at the moment, there is no race she is looking forward to. This is memorable for Jebet since it is her first win since she started competing in marathon races.
