More than Ksh 20 million set aside for top finishers at Nairobi City Marathon

The Nairobi City Marathon comes up on Sunday, September with millions of prize money set aside for the top 20 finishers in the full marathon.

The third edition of the Nairobi City Marathon is scheduled for September 8 with the top 12 finishers set to walk away with a hefty prize purse.

The race categories eligible for prize money include the full marathon, half marathon and the 10km expressway run. For the full marathon, the winners in both the men’s and women’s races will walk away with Ksh 3.5 million respectively.

The athletes who finish second, third and fourth will pocket Ksh 2.25 million, Ksh1.5 million and Ksh 800,000. The athletes who finish fifth and sixth will pocket Ksh 650,000 and Ksh 450,000 respectively with the athletes who finish seventh and eighth having to walk away with Ksh 400,000 and Ksh 325,000.

The ninth, 10th and 11th place finishers will pocket Ksh 300,000, Ksh 200,000 and Ksh 175,000 with the 12th, 13th and 14th place finishers being awarded Ksh 150,000, Ksh 140,000 and Ksh 130,000.

The athletes who finish 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th will pocket Ksh 120,000, Ksh 100,000, Ksh 80,000 and Ksh 60,000 respectively. Those who finish 19th and 20th will be awarded Ksh 50,000 and Ksh 30,000.

The winners of the half marathon will walk away with Ksh 150,000 with the second and third-place finishers walking away with Ksh 80,000 and Ksh 50,000. The athletes who finish fourth, fifth and sixth will be awarded Ksh 30,000, Ksh 25,000 and Ksh 20,000.

In the 10km expressway run, the winners will pocket Ksh 100,000 with the second and third-place finishers walking away with Ksh 60,000 and Ksh 40,000. The athletes who finish fourth, fifth and sixth will pocket Ksh 15,000 and Ksh 7500.
