Safania explained that seeing Omanyala get to the global stage was a morale booster for her and many other sprinters and it made her believe everything is possible.

“Sprints are not easy but training with Omanyala has helped me a lot. He has been a source of motivation to us.
He has been pushing us beyond the limits and seeing him succeed has also motivated me to believe that everything is possible. He is a Kenyan like us and it makes us know that it is possible for us to make it to the top,” Safania said.

Sprinter Monica Safania has raised concerns about why athletes have to pay if they are to train at the Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums.
Omanyala’s 2023 season has been full of glamour despite him failing to impress at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
He became the first Kenyan to win a Diamond League Meeting after his dominant exploits at the Meeting in Monaco. Omanyala also ended the season among the top five fastest men in the world this season.
He achieved this feat courtesy of his world-leading time of 9.84 at the Kip Keino Classic but he was later replaced as world leader by Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes.

Meanwhile, Safania explained that there are many sprinters in Kenya, thanks to the Omanyala effect.
“For now, we have a good number of sprinters but the challenge is getting the facilities to train. Given an opportunity to get those facilities, I think we can produce the best. We have many Omanyalas here in Kenya,” she added.
