Njenga had already been provisionally suspended for the presence/use of a Prohibited Substance (Norandrosterone).

The Athletics Integrity Unit on Tuesday, August 8 announced that they had provisionally suspended Michael Kunyuga for tampering with their operations.

Kunyuga, the 2017 Padova Marathon champion, had already been provisionally suspended for the presence/use of a Prohibited Substance (Norandrosterone) on August 1 in 2022.

Norandrosterone is a product of nandrolone, an anabolic androgenic steroid known to accelerate muscle growth and recovery.

His case has now been notified and will be required to defend himself before a tribunal at a later date.

In a post on their Twitter account, the AIU said: “The AIU has Michael Kunyuga Njenga (Kenya) for Tampering. Njenga is already provisionally suspended for the presence/use of a Prohibited Substance (Norandrosterone).”

Kunyuga’s last race was during the 2022 Rimi Riga Marathon where he finished an impressive second in 2:12:44.

Before then, Kunyuga had posted some other impressive results like winning the 2018 Hangzhou Marathon and the 2017 Hengshui Lake Marathon. He also finished second at the 2019 Blackmores Sydney Marathon and the 2018 Hannover Marathon.

Kenya is still in Category A which means it is at the highest doping risk, along with Ethiopia, Morocco, Nigeria, Bahrain, Belarus, and Ukraine.
