Masai Russell competed at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix where she finished sixth before fading to a ninth-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic.
She would manage fifth place at the USATF New York City Grand Prix and headed to the US Olympic trials where she floored her rivals. At the Holloway Pro Classic, she finished third and then went on to win the Olympic title in Paris, a true definition of showing up when it matters.
