Mary Moraa's coach, Alex Sang, has disclosed that the 800m world record is in their plans as they eye the Olympic Games next year.
Mary Moraa has had a glamorous 2023 season and she is not stopping as she heads to the 2024 campaign.
Moraa was unbeaten in the women’s 800m the whole season until she fell short at the Prefontaine Classic, the final Diamond League Meeting in Eugene, USA. She opened her season at the Kip Keino Classic with a win before reigning supreme at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

Moraa then competed at the National Championships where she dominated and later proceeded to the Meetings in Lausanne and Silesia where she won the 800m.
The Commonwealth Games champion did not rest on her laurels as she proceeded to win her first global title at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary before ending her season with a fourth-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic.
As she gears up for the busy 2024 season, the reigning world champion will be hoping for a win at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. Speaking to World Athletics, her coach, Alex Sang has also shared that the 800m world record will be in their plans.
He said: “We are going now for the next season – try to lower the world record if possible and hopefully await the Olympic Games. A world champion, now going for the Olympic Games.”
The women’s 800m world record currently stands at 1:53.28 and was set by Jarmila Kratochvílová at the Olympiapark Meeting in Munich’s Olympic Stadium.
Moraa’s Personal Best time currently stands at 1:56.03 and with hard work and determination, she can surely lower the world record time.
