Reigning Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa stunned the masses to win the 400m in the Botswana Golden Grand Prix staged at the National Stadium in Gaborone on Saturday, April 29.
Moraa had a slow start out of the blocks but gained momentum as the race intensified. With the finish line in sight, Moraa was in a class of her own as she obliterated the strong field to win and set a new Personal Best (PB) time of 50.43.
Miranda Coetzee of South Africa came second in 51.13 as Jamaica’s Candice McLeod sealed the podium after clocking 51.17 to cross the finish line.
Meanwhile, Wiseman Were settled for third place in the men’s 400m Hurdles final race after clocking 49.28. USA’s Trevor Bassitt took top honours with a dominant win that saw him clock 48.42 to cross the line. Morocco’s Mohamad Amine followed him closely to finish second in 48.57.

Meanwhile, Samwel Imeta also emerged champion over the 100m in heat one as he cruised to the finish line to set a new Personal Best time of 10.10.
South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson settled for second place in 10.15 as Namibia’s Hainuca Gilbert sealed the podium after clocking 10.17.
The 24-year-old also had a great start to his season that saw him run his first-ever sub-10 performance during the second Athletics Kenya meet.
He went for his international outdoor tour in South Africa where he won one of the three races he was participating in.

ATHLETICS Samwel Imeta to compete in tonight's Grand Prix in build up to Botswana 100m clash
Imeta settled for fourth and second places at the first and second ASA Grand Prixes respectively.
In the first ASA Grand Prix, Imeta placed fourth in 10.39. He went back to the drawing board and came back for the second edition of the event where he finished second (10.22) and went ahead to win the third edition (10.12).
Elsewhere, Abel Kipsang also came from behind to claim top honours in the men’s 800m highly contested race. His compatriot, Koitatoi Kidali had started off on a high but unfortunately fizzled out during the last few meters to the finish line.
