Mary Moraa will not be racing her usual 800m as she has been confirmed for a longer distance at the Silesia Diamond League.

Mary Moraa will go out of her comfort zone at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia as she eyes redemption following the Paris Olympics flop.

The Olympic 800m bronze medallist hoped to claim a gold medal at the Paris Olympics but was forced to settle for bronze behind Keely Hodgkinson and Tsige Duguma. She now heads to Silesia to contest the 1000m as she builds up for the Diamond League Meeting final.

Moraa will continue her Diamond League campaign in Lausanne before heading to Silesia where she also faces a stern test.

She last raced the longer distance in 2021 when she won the KBC Nacht van de Atletiek in Belgium and won the race before finishing 10th in the same event at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia.

Moraa returns to the distance, this time around with more experience to impress on the global stage and show the world she is still in the game.

She goes up against Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin, who will be out to improve on her performance following the Olympic Games setback where she could not make the final. Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi, the 2019 world champion will also be in the mix, looking to bounce back to winning ways after a turbulent season.

American Nia Akins will also be lining up for the race after failing to make the final of the women’s 800m at the Olympic Games.

Great Britain’s Jemma Reekie will also be out to prove a point after faltering in the Paris Olympic Games. Reekie was a favourite to medal, or at least reach the final of the women’s 800m but failed to impress. She lines up against the stacked field with eyes on redemption.

In the tough race, Moraa will enjoy the company of Vivian Chebet who will be debuting over the distance. She made her Olympic debut in Paris and reached the semifinal.
