World 800m champion Mary Moraa is utilising her off-season by inspiring young athletes to invest in their talents.

Reigning World 800m champion Mary Moraa is a woman on a mission as she spends her off-season to inspire young athletes.

The Commonwealth Games champion took her time off to inspire and nurture young upcoming athletes at the Infill Academy, Komarock Estate, in Nairobi on Saturday morning before travelling for her homecoming party in Kisii.

Speaking during her visit to the school, the 23-year-old encouraged parents who graced the 5k run to support their children as they seek to explore their sports talents, adding that sports can also help earn a living.

“You can strike a balance between education and sports…sometimes when you are free, you take time to train and also take education seriously too," she said.

"If you are talented in running, you make sure you nurture that skill. If you also don’t engage in sporting activities while in school, I encourage you to try it out because you never know.

"It takes time to build yourself so I would just encourage them to keep working hard and not lose their morale."

Meanwhile, Infill Academy Director, Rahab Thutai said the run, dubbed the 'Infill Marathon’, was held to commemorate International Day for the Eradication of Poverty scheduled for October 17.

She explained that having Moraa on board was a great step since she is also passionate about education. She noted that Moraa will definitely be an inspiration to the youngsters as they seek to tap into their talents and make good use of them.
