Mary Moraa hopes Sarah Moraa will follow in her footsteps and dominate the 800m on the global stage, just as she followed her mentor Hellen Obiri.
Mary Moraa has expressed her wish to have her kin Sarah Moraa follow in her footsteps as they both look to dominate the 800m on the global stages.
Just like Mary Moraa, Sarah came into the limelight at a young age, in 2019, and managed to make the cut to her first global championship, the World Under-20 Championships in Peru, Lima this year.
On her part, Mary Moraa first donned the Kenyan jersey at the 2017 World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi when she was just 17. In an interview with Sports Passion, the reigning world champion expressed her desire to have Sarah Moraa also dominate races on the global stage.

Why athletics coach wants Kenyan sprinters to train in Kisumu & Mombasa
The experienced tactician has given reasons why Kenyan sprinters would benefit from switching their train base from Nairobi to Kisumu or the coastal region.
She explained that just like she followed in the footsteps of her mentor Hellen Obiri, a two-time Boston Marathon champion, she would love to see Sarah make an impact.
“I was very happy when I saw her winning the gold medal in Lima because that was the first time she represented the country and I have that hope that she will follow in my footsteps just like I did follow in the footsteps of my mentor, Hellen Obiri,” Mary Moraa said.
Meanwhile, the youngster has managed to attain huge milestones this season, winning her maiden global title at the World Under-20 Championships. Sarah opened her season with two Athletics Kenya weekend meetings before heading to the African Games national trials, finishing third in the 800m.
She then competed at the Kip Keino Classic but failed to finish the race before her second-place finish at the Kenyan Championships. A few days later, she finished third at the Kenyan Olympic trials where she qualified for the Paris Olympic Games but was yet to hit the qualifying mark.
Despite winning a gold medal at the African Athletics Championships, she did not attain the time and had to shift focus to the World Under-20 Championships where she also claimed the gold medal.
