Most athletes have already closed their seasons and given their ratings but Mary Moraa is still reluctant to give an overall reaction to her season as she looks to achieve one more milestone.
Mary Moraa has one more race to go before gauging how her season has been but she believes it has been perfect so far.
The Olympic 800m bronze medallist will be competing in the women’s 800m at Athlos, Alex Ohanian’s women’s-only event scheduled for September 26 where she intends to strike a win and her season on a high.
She has so far had a great season, claiming a bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games before winning the trophy at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels. In between, she has won a series of races including the 600m at the ISTAF 2024 in Berlin where she broke Caster Semenya’s world best.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe is among seven candidates seeking the International Olympics Committee presidency as current holder Thomas Bach’s terms comes to an end.
Moraa also claimed top honours in the women’s 400m at the African Games before winning the Kip Keino Classic and the Diamond League Meetings in Doha and Lausanne. She also finished second at the Prefontaine Classic.

“This is a perfect season for me, but I’m yet to close the season. I will be running in New York on the 26th of this month. After that, I can now gauge how the season was,” Moraa said upon landing in the country from Belgium.
She expressed excitement to have shattered the 600m world best after chasing it for a long time. The reigning world champion explained that she had discussed her desire with her coach Alex Sang and her management organised the Berlin race for her.
Moraa added that she prepared well for the season and the support from her coach and partner Richard Lagat has been very important in ensuring she can make a mark on the global stage. She explained that they had to put in the work and ensure they achieve their goals.
“I’m so happy to be back home with the world record in the 600m and it’s been a long time since I told my coach about wanting to break it. After racing in the 1000m race in Poland, my manager told me that there was a 600m race in Berlin and that I was to go and compete there,” Moraa said.
“I was tired but I knew I must go there and compete. I went and ran and broke the record and then also won the Diamond League trophy, I’m very happy. The preparations have been very long for me and my coach and family. We have been working very hard to achieve this season’s targets and maintain good shape. Coach and my husband have been very supportive and they have been encouraging me on how to keep my focus and how I can make it in life.”
