The world champion had no equals in the 800m at the Lausanne Diamond where she executed her tactics well to claim victory.

Mary Moraa ran a dominant race to win the 800m at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday.

The world champion asserted herself on the race, taking control in the first lap before slowing it down only to sprint off in the final 200m to leave her rivals in her wake.

Moraa clocked 1:57.91 for first place ahead of Georgia Bell of Great Britain, who timed 1:58.53, as Rekkie Jemma, also from Britain, finished third in 1:58.73.

Having seen her tactics fail to pay off at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she managed a bronze medal as Briton Keely Hodgkinson won gold, Moraa was not going to be beaten again and went back to the tried and tested.

Moraa started quickly, stretching her opponents in the first lap, before slowing off, but took off again in the final 200m to win by a big margin.

Her good Diamond League form continues as she had won in Doha in May before a second-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic, the Eugene Diamond League, the same month.
