Otieno is still getting back on his feet after serving his two-year ban and has revealed his plan to achieve Olymic qualification time after failing to make the team for the African Games.

Former 100m national record holder Mark Odhiambo has revealed his plan after failing to make the Kenyan team that will represent the country at the upcoming African Games in Accra which are set to start on Friday.

Kenya will be represented by Hesbon Ochieng and Stephen Onyango in the 100m race at the games, while Otieno, who had not competed competitively since the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, is still getting back on his feet after his suspension was lifted.

Otieno started his season by making his indoor debut at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting in France where he finished fifth in his heat and did not proceed to the final.

He then proceeded to the Belgrade Indoor Meeting in Serbia, winning in his heat and proceeding to finish fifth in the final of the race.

Otieno was one of the athletes who trialed at for the African games, but he was not seeking to qualify primarily, but rather to see where his body was after a two-year hiatus.

“Competition and training are both two different things,” Otieno told the media at Nyayo Stadium earlier this week.

“This is the year I am starting to run and I will say it is quite challenging because your body requires a lot of competition.

“Coming back, I just wanted to see where I am after coming out  from the indoors. I have been training for two weeks and just wanted to see where I am at.”

Otieno has revealed a plan to try and do races in South Africa later as he seeks Olympic qualification time.

Looking ahead, Otieno unveiled his plan to participate in races in South Africa later in the month, aiming to gauge his performance and work towards Olympic qualification. He acknowledged that the journey ahead is a learning curve, recognizing the significance of competitive experiences in his comeback.

As Otieno endeavors to regain his form and secure the coveted Olympic qualification time, his commitment to the sport's challenges and continuous improvement remains at the forefront of his comeback narrative.
