Mark Otieno is banking on his faith ahead of the Olympic Games where he intends to reach the final of the 100m and hopefully bag a medal.

Former national champion Mark Otieno is leaving no stone unturned as he seeks redemption at the Olympic Games in Paris, France scheduled for Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11.

Otieno is not downplaying himself as he seeks to make it to the final of the Olympic Games where he wants to bag a medal.

The Kenyan hopes to bounce back stronger and make an impression after he was disqualified from the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics a few minutes to the semi-final of the men’s 100m race due to a doping offense.

He completed his doping ban on July 30, 2023, and he was eligible to compete from August 1. He is slowly coming back into competition and his focus is now on the Olympic Games.

“The goal for Paris is to reach in the final and I know people will tell me to go slow and things like that but I don’t want to limit my faith.

“I want to pick up the pieces where I left from in Tokyo and of course, I’m a different athlete right now spiritually, physically, and mentally.

“I want to enter Paris knowing that people count me in the final. I also want to get a medal God-willing,” Otieno said.

After completing his doping ban, Otieno competed at the 5° Meeting Brazzale, Campo Scuola G. Perraro in Vicenza, Italy where he won in his heat before finishing second in the final. In the heats, he clocked 10.47 before lowering the time to 10.39 in the final of the event.

This season, Otieno started off with the 100m race at the third Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meet held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, January 26.

Otieno stormed to the semifinal of the 100m after displaying class in the heats where he crossed the finish line first in 10.42 but did not compete in the semifinal and final of the race.
