The qualifying time for the women’s 1500m race at the World Championships is 4:03.50.
After transitioning from the 800m to 1500m category, little-known Lydia Lagat is now eyeing a Team Kenya slot for the World Championships slated for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
The 2019 Africa junior 800m silver medallist is hopeful of making a mark as she transitions to the three and a half lap race which is currently ruled by two-time world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon.

Kipyegon broke the 1500m national record of 3:53.91 in 2021 in Florence.
To increase her chances of making the cut to the global show, the 22-year-old wants to maintain her consistency in competing at the Athletics Kenya meetings.
“I am now preparing through the AK meets to see if I can qualify for the World Championships in Budapest,” she said.
Lagat has only competed in one of the Athletics Kenya meet out the five staged. She competed at the second edition of the meets held at the Nyayo National Stadium where she settled for third place in 4:11.53.

Kipruto will be keen to make the cut to the national team for the World Championships.
The qualifying time for the women’s 1500m race at the World Championships is 4:03.50.
At the moment, she revealed that she is keen on gracing the sixth and final AK weekend meet which is scheduled for April 28 and 29 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
“Right now, I want to compete in the last meeting and I will compete in the 1500m. I want to see if I can achieve my target there,” she said.

The Kenyan sprint sensation was in a class of his own as Imeta finished second.
Lagat is aware of the opposition she is bound to face in 15000m but she is hopeful she will one day get to the level of Kipyegon and Africa 1500m champion Winny Chebet.
She also revealed that changing her training base from Nyahururu to Kericho has enabled her to train effectively.
“Shifting my training area has been a major boost in matters of my physical fitness. I have noticed a lot of differences. My body feels better than it did when I was in Nyahururu. The climate in Kericho has enabled me to improve on my speed immensely,” she said.
