Leading Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o was proud to have been a part of the cheering squad to motivate Faith Kipyegon to take the women’s 1500m crown at Alexis Ohanian’s Athlos event on Thursday, September 26.
Lupita shared a video of herself in the stands, loudly cheering on the athletes as they displayed impeccable performances. She lauded Kipyegon for a good job to end her season with a win and $60,000 racing in New York City for the first time.
The 41-year-old actress also expressed a hand of gratitude to Serena William’s husband Ohanian for inviting her to the very historic meet.

Multiple Olympics champion Faith Kipyegon extended her unbeaten run to over three years following her victory at Athlos, rekindling memories of the last time she tasted defeat.

Meanwhile, Faith Kipyegon was impressive in the race as she claimed top honours, clocking 4:04.79 to cross the finish line ahead of Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia. Another Kenya, Susan Ejore completed the podium in the tight race.
Faith Kipyegon has enjoyed a great season, successfully defending her 1500m crown at the Paris Olympic Games and taking the silver in the women’s 5000m. The Kenyan 1500m sensation also lowered her world record time at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, a few weeks before the Paris Olympic Games.

She started her season late due to an injury but bounced back to show the world her capabilities and Kipyegon truly remains the greatest 1500m runner of all time. This season also saw her race sparingly and in her interview after taking the win at the women-only event, she admitted to feeling strong.
However, she now takes a break from competing to spend time with her family and will be back next season, with eyes fixed on winning her fourth world title in the 1500m and second title in the 5000m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
