After missing Kenya's Olympic trials, Agnes Ngetich returned strong with the second-fastest half marathon time in history at Valencia, proving her dedication despite setbacks.
At the start of the season, Kenyans were assured of a strong team of 5,000m and 10,000m female runners to the Olympics and there was no doubt that Agnes Ngetich would be in the mix.
She had been scheduled to compete in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic, which doubled up as Athletics Kenya’s Olympic trials. However, Agnes Ngetich did not start, raising questions concerning her absence.
Kenyans also expected her to show up for the 5,000m at the Kenyan Olympic trials at the Nyayo National Stadium but Agnes Ngetich was a no show. She did not give an update on what was happening in her life but on Sunday, she struck with the second fastest time in the half marathon in Valencia.

Jamaica’s only Paris 2024 Olympics gold medalist considering shock career switch
Roje Stona, who won Jamaica’s only gold medal is mulling the possibility of quitting athletics to play American football as he feels he has everything needed for an NFL career.
Agnes Ngetich threatened the world record time of 1:02:52 that was set by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey on the same course in 2021. Her results in Valencia proved that she was working behind the scenes ahead of her debut and having achieved such a feat, she will be out to make an impact next season.
“Many thanks to @mediomaratonvlc @ikaikasports @adidasrunning and everyone else in my team. Work never stops... 🙏🏽,” she shared on her Instagram handle.
Her management, Ikaika Sports, shared that Agnes Ngetich has been working around the clock and she had to make some changes in how she conducted her season. Missing the Paris Olympic Games was definitely a setback for the 10km world record holder but it was for a good course.
“Bone edema in April, missed Olympic Trials & Paris '24, long rehab, changes to nutrition, training, teamwork and care. Debut in @mediomaratonvlc, 2nd fastest of all-time. NR, 15km World Best 44:16, wet, slippery and less aggressive footwear chosen,” a post on her management’s Instagram handle read.
“Agnes Ngetich (@jebet.agnes) 🙏🏼. Pacemaking by Japheth Kosgei and Vinicent Nyageo. Many thanks to @drpedret on diagnostic efforts and for support and care during rehabilitation and return to sport phases.”
