The Kenyan Olympic trials witnessed thrilling performances and setbacks in equal measure with some of the greatest Kenyan athletes set to miss the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The curtains closed for the Kenyan Olympic trials and it was a shocking state of affair as some of the greatest athletes will not be representing the country at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The event saw thrilling performances from youngsters and new names who outclassed the oldies and booked their slots to the global showpiece.

Emmanuel Korir: What next for Olympics 800m champion after missing direct ticket to Paris?
Olympics 800m champion Emmanuel Korir faces uncertainty after failing to earn a place in the final at the Athletics Kenya Olympics trials leaving his title defence in jeopardy.
Some of the athletes, who have been in great form and have made appearances in previous editions of the event will unfortunately miss out on this year’s edition of the event starting from defending champion Emmanuel Korir to former Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto.
1) Emmanuel Korir

Korir is the defending champion in the 800m but he will miss out on his title defense following his performance at the Olympic trials. The former world champion could only afford a sixth-place finish in the semifinal, a result that denied him a slot in the final of the race.

2) Daniel Simiu

After missing out on the men’s 10,000m team following his eighth-place finish in 27:24.33 at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene, Simiu had a chance to redeem himself in the 5000m at the Kenyan trials held at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The Berlin Half Marathon champion argued that he had only trained for the 25-lap race and was not in the right shape to compete in the 5000m. The 10,000m team will be represented by Daniel Mateiko, Nicholas Kimeli and Bernard Kibet with the 5000m team having Ronald Kwemoi, Jacob Krop and Edwin Kurgat.
3) Conseslus Kipruto

The two-time world champion was hoping to have this as his final Olympic Games but his dreams were cut short when he finished 10th during the trials.
He also missed out on the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he had to pull out of the race after knocking himself on a barrier. The mantle is now left with Amos Serem, Simon Koech and Commonwealth Games champion Abraham Kibiwott.
4) Agnes Jebet

Many track and field fans were hoping to see world 10km record holder Jebet competing in the 10,000m and 5,000m but she failed to show up for both events.
Jebet was in the start list of the women’s 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene which doubled up as the Athletics Kenya trials, but did not show up for the event.

Meet the little-known athletes set to fly Kenya’s flag at Paris 2024 Olympics
Athletics Kenya unveiled the country’s team to the Paris Olympics and the lineup includes some new names who will be hoping to make a big impact in the French capital.
She also missed the 5000m race at the Nyayo National Stadium, meaning she will not be in action at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The women’s 10,000m will be represented by World Cross Country champion Beatrice Chebet, silver medallist Lilian Kasait and bronze medallist Margaret Chelimo. Faith Kipyegon headlines the women’s 5000m with Chebet and Chelimo, who is yet to hit the qualifying time, joining her in chasing the Olympic dream.
