Benson Kipruto has opened up about how things have changed on his end since the Paris Olympic Games.

The Paris Olympic Games were the first time Benson Kipruto was representing the country and he has admitted that after that, a lot of things have changed for him.

At the Olympic Games, Benson Kipruto fought hard and managed to secure a bronze medal, revealing that the course was not a walk in the park. Tamirat Tola claimed top honours in the race as Bashir Abdi came in second.

After his bronze medal, the reigning Tokyo Marathon champion received a lot of recognition and made a lot of money. Thanks to the Paris Olympic Games, the money he has gained has been enough to help him construct a house that is almost complete.

Making such milestones is a huge deal for him owing to the fact that he struggled growing up. The Kenyan distance sensation was raised by his mother after his father died when he was young. He did not have the privilege of attending school all the time and worked on a farm to earn a living.

The 2021 Boston Marathon champion then got inspiration to compete from his elder brother Dickson Chumba and has never looked back since putting on his spikes for the first time.

"Life has changed since Paris. I'm now getting a lot of invitations to run in marathons," Kipruto told reporters during an interaction ahead of the race day,” the former Chicago Marathon champion said as per The Week magazine.

"I'm building a house in a small village near my training place, it's 90% complete now. This is all thanks to my running achievements."

Kipruto revealed that getting the rare chance to represent Kenya for the first time was a dream come true and going ahead to win a medal made everything interesting. He has enjoyed a great season starting from his Tokyo Marathon victory where he clocked his personal best of 2:02:16.

After the Olympic Games, Benson Kipruto took a break from training and he was due to compete at the Chicago Marathon but decided to withdraw since he had not fully recovered from the brutal Paris Olympics course.

Going into his next race next season, he borrows a leaf from Eliud Kipchoge’s wise words that insist on maintaining discipline to do well on the global stage.

"After Paris, there was a massive celebration. It was my first time representing my country, and winning a bronze medal was a huge achievement for me. I had never represented my country in any international event before, nowhere, never. It was my first time representing Kenya on such a stage, and it felt incredible," Kipruto revealed.

"After Paris, I decided to take a break. I didn't participate in any races for a while. Initially, I was supposed to run in Chicago, but I said no because Paris was tough, and I needed time to recover. I've now started preparing for my next marathon. That's why I came here to participate and see how my body has adapted after the break," he added.
