Letsile Tebogo is not putting himself under pressure as he disclosed the two conditions he has to meet first before he attempts to shatter Usain Bolt's 200m world record.

Botswanan sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo has opened up about attempts to break the world, clearing the air that he will only do that when his body is ready and the weather is perfect.

Tebogo noted that he cannot predict the time when he will attempt to shatter the record since it will put him under a lot of pressure, something he is trying to avoid completely. Usain Bolt’s 200m world record stands at 19.19 seconds and was set at the 2009 Berlin World Championships.

With his astonishing form in recent times, Tebogo has been entered in the conversation to break that record but he is the one who calls the shots on when he will do it.

“I didn’t say I’ll break the world record, I said it’s 10m away from me so it’s going to take a lot of courage for me to do that. I think a little bit of rest up before we can attempt it again. So, it’s going to take a while,” Tebogo told Flo Track.

“May when the body feels good, when the weather is perfect at Brussels, that’s when we’ll see how the time is going to be but I can’t put a date on when I’m going to break the world record because the moment I put the date, I’ve already put myself under pressure. I don’t want that pressure on my shoulders,” he added.

The world 100m silver medallist has been in great shape this season, winning the 200m at the Olympic Games after silencing Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles who were forced to finish second and third respectively.

At the Olympic stage, Tebogo clocked a stunning African record time of 19.46 seconds before anchoring the Botswanan men’s 4x400m relay team to a silver medal.

He then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne where he was no fluke as he triumphed over Erriyon Knighton and Fred Kerley before his recent win at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia.
