Botswana’s golden boy Letsile Tebogo continues to reap from his Olympics success after being handed treasured diamond and more cash rewards at the weekend.

Letsile Tebogo continues to harvest from his Paris Olympics success with the latest reward to go his way being a polished diamond and over Ksh5 million.

Tebogo was among 14 Team Botswana athletes who were gifted a polished diamond and P60,000 (Ksh580,068) alongside members of their technical team, from Debswana, De Beers Global Sight holder Sales and Diamond Trading Company Botswana at the weekend.

“Los Angeles 2028 is just around the corner. We must not allow the standard we’ve set to drop. Our collective preparation for LA 2028 must begin now,” said Debswana managing director Andrew Motsomi during the ceremony.

The company had pumped P9 million to Botswana Athletics Association in 2022 to fund their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics and was thrilled to see the efforts pay off big time.

“Today, that vision has been realised in the most spectacular way. We are here to honour 14 of our finest, Botswana’s Olympians, who competed with unmatched zeal and brought home unprecedented glory.”

Harvest time did not end there for Tebogo as Orange Botswana rewarded the athlete, who is their brand ambassador, with P500,000 (Ksh4,833,904).

The rewards come hot on the heels of much more which has already been given to the sprinter and his team-mates since returning to the country after the Paris Olympics where he won gold in 200m before anchoring the 4x400m relay team to a silver medal.

Top restaurant Park27 last week pledged a sponsorship of P10,000 (Ksh96,347) per month for the next one year to fund his athletics preparations.

Botswanan gold medallists in Paris were being rewarded P1 million (Ksh9,538,990), silver attracting P500,000 (Ksh4,769,495) while bronze medallists take home P250,000 (2,384,747). Finalists also received a P25,000 (Ksh238,474) cash prize.

That is besides what has been offered by the country’s leaders and various other companies.
