American sprint icon Justin Gatlin has urged retired Jamaican Olympian Asafa Powell to complete a hitoric career milestone.

American sprinting legend Justin Gatlin has called on his former Jamaican rival, Asafa Powell, to lace up his spikes one more time and achieve a career milestone that remains tantalizingly close.

Powell, renowned for his blistering 9.72-second personal best that ranks him fourth among the fastest men in history, holds a remarkable record of 97 sub-10-second runs in the 100m, a feat Gatlin believes deserves a perfect conclusion.

Speaking on the Ready Set Go podcast with co-host Rodney Green, Gatlin expressed his desire to see Powell return to the track to round off his record-breaking achievement.

“Why don’t you just finish it off, man? Let’s finish it off,” Gatlin urged Powell, addressing the Jamaican sprinter directly.

Green chimed in with humor, recounting a recent online exchange with Powell shutting down the possibility of a return for the Jamaican speedster.

“Asafa was online the other day asking what goes with Ricardo coconut rum, and I was trying to tell him cranberry juice. That boy is not trying to run no more,” Green joked, highlighting Powell’s apparent contentment in retirement.

Powell’s illustrious career saw him share the stage with sprint icons like Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Tyson Gay.

Despite retiring from professional athletics, his unmatched consistency in dipping under the 10-second barrier places him in a league of his own.

Gatlin and Powell have recently formed a friendship after years of rivalry, with Gatlin even visiting Powell in Jamaica. Reflecting on their bond, Gatlin added a note of camaraderie and respect for the Jamaican speedster’s legacy.

While Powell has shown little inclination to return to competition, Gatlin’s call resonates with fans who would love to see the sprint legend add the final touches to an already historic career.
